Back from Coaching Millions Super Summit 2009

If you’ve ever been to any business or networking events, you probably noticed that many times attendees are hanging out in the hall instead of listening to the presenters.  People want to interact, learn, network, brainstorm, and mastermind, and a line-up of presentations with short breaks simply doesn’t allow for that to happen.

I wanted my event to be different. Lots of interaction, hot seats, Q&A, mastermind groups, networking, and other group activities allowed me to connect people during the event.

Unfortunately, this trip would never qualify to say that I’ve been to Dallas. We stayed at the hotel and visited the biggest mall in Dallas, where the hotel was located, but that was the extent of seeing Texas :)

The Book I Couldn’t Put Down for 72 Hours

    I don’t know what it was….

    - the simple compelling language
    - the promising topic of a best-selling title
    - the deep thinking it made me do

But I just couldn’t stop reading “The Secrets of the Millionaire Mind”, by Harv T. Ecker.

    Have you read it?

    No, no….

    Have you DONE it?

It made me look back at my upbringing and ask myself: “What did my family teach me about money?”

We definitely couldn’t afford a lot of things, and even if we could, we’d have to be on a mission to FIND it (former USSR in the 80’s is where I spent my childhood).

But then I remembered something else…

My dad has a business on the side…quite illegal in those days, but he was simply responding to consumer demand.

It was impossible to find any European or American music in stores. You had to go to the “black market” to meet with other “moonlighters” and either buy it or trade it there. Then my dad would resell that music to others for a higher price.

He also would create a custom recording from different albums by request, for a special price.

So he was always on the lookout for business opportunities… Unfortunately, that’s as far as his entrepreneurship took him in the socialistic Russia in the 80’s. I wonder what he’d be doing if he lived here in his younger years.

Perhaps that’s where my entrepreneurial “gene” came from…

One of the things that especially hit the nerve from the book was the fact that, just because you’re rich, you shouldn’t feel guilty or bad about people who don’t have as much as you do. After all, your being poor doesn’t make them any richer.

On the other hand, if you’re rich, you CAN help them by doing charity, pro-bono work, fundraisers, etc.

    I finally cracked the code!

After nine years of people telling me that I couldn’t build a million-dollar company working 4-5 hours a day, while raising two small children, I proved them wrong.

(I only wish I would’ve known about this business model sooner and not listened to those who slave over their businesses into the night!)

    • Do you feel stuck at your current income level?
    • Do you constantly worry about getting things done and keeping your cashflow going?
    • Do you feel like the only way to grow your business is to work more hours or to add more clients?

I found an amazing business model that allows you to cut your work time in half and still experience massive growth in your business.

I call it “The BLISS Factor” and this April I’ll be personally coaching a select group of entrepreneurs in creating a high- income business with unlimited growth potential using the same model.

    Finding The Right Business Mentor

    Finding the Right Business Mentor

    This happens all the time…

You see someone successful, you’re amazed at their accomplishments, you subscribe to their newsletter, buy their products, go to their events, and start modeling what they do.

A year later you find yourself overwhelmed, frustrated, and not even close to the results you expected to see.

There are several reasons why this might happen:

    • You may be too busy to take action on what you learn from them.
    • You might not have the right tools or support to take action.
    • You don’t have a coach to keep your motivation level high.

…Or, there might be another reason, which is often the case:

    • You chose the wrong role model for your business. Let me explain.

When you see a successful entrepreneur, what you don’t really know is how they got there, and most importantly what their life looks like today.

Many successful business owners give up their lives to build a business. Or, at the very least, they decide to put their lives on hold while they build it.

Late night product launches that last for weeks, being chained to their computers for 10-12 hours a day, missing a family vacation just to complete a project - that’s what it takes many times to build a profitable business. We just don’t see what happens “behind the curtain.”

    And here’s the kicker…

The person you chose to follow may NOT be the right person for YOU! What worked for one entrepreneur may not necessarily work for another. I spent months trying to create a program my mentor suggested, only to discover that I didn’t want to run it at all!

Be careful who you listen to:

    • Are they running the type of business you want to own?
    • Is their lifestyle what you want to model for yourself?
    • How much time do they spend on the things you really don’t enjoy doing (e.g. travel, telephone, technology, networking, coaching, speaking, writing, training, etc. )?

I know for a FACT that you can build a highly successful and profitable business on *your terms*, doing only the things that fit into your lifestyle.

So….Do you have the right business role model?  Or, is it time to find a new one?

Business Growth Survey Results (plus Milana’s secrets)

Last week I ran a survey asking you about your biggest challenge in running and growing your business.

I LOVE surveys because they’re very eye-opening! Here is a quick glance at the results:

Of the 346 people who responded:

    • 67.7% - Make less than $50K a year
    • $19.3% - Make between $50K and $100K a year
    • 13.1% - Make $100K a year and up

Business owners with a lower income level said they have trouble:

    - Identifying their specialty and niche market

    - Building a mailing list of prospects

    - Getting customers and clients

Business owners with a higher income level shared that they are struggling with:

    - Getting things done

    - Finding the right people for their team

    - Creating efficient business systems

While there are many differences between “beginners” and “advanced” business owners, I noticed one common thread. OVERWHELM - not enough time to implement all ideas; too many great opportunities and constant feeling of missing out on them.

I find this absolutely fascinating! No matter where you are in your business, overwhelm can easily take over your business and life.

I found several very powerful ways to get things done and drive my business forward without experiencing the overwhelm most entrepreneurs complain of.

    Here they are:

    1. Single-minded focus on my biggest most important projects. These are the projects that make the biggest impact on my bottom line.
    2. Having a system and a criteria for saying “no” to projects, people, and ideas. You can’t do it all and if you try to, you’ll end up getting poor results.
    3. Using a “filter” when receiving product offers. Not everything is right for me and my business. I always keep my business goals and natural abilities in mind when investing into a product or signing up with a mentor.
    4. Make a deliberate decision to exclude certain marketing tactics and vehicles for the sake of focus.  There are thousands of ways to attract prospects and convert them into clients, choose top 5-7 and focus your promotional strategy around them.
    5. Work from a plan! Start with a 12-month timeline then fill in the blank; then transfer your action plan into your calendar - this has tripled my productivity and saved a ton of time!
    6. Focus on doing less, but doing it better. Unless your goal is to constantly keep yourself busy, doing less actually produces much higher results.

How to Create More Free Time And Increase Your Income

    Let me ask you:

    - Do you feel like you’re stuck at your current revenue, but couldn’t possibly fit any more clients or projects?

    - Do you wish you could create more free time to work on new and exciting projects, or just to cut your work week in half?

Dan Finley, a successful entrepreneur with a six-figure coaching and consulting business in the financial advisor industry, has found himself chained to his phone 5-6 hours a day working with 10 groups and 20 private clients, doing all of his own marketing, administrative, and even web work.

Dan maxed out at 100 clients. He wants to go to the next level of in-come, but there’s no room for more! Dan needed a strategic overhaul of his business model.

I’ve just recorded a strategy session with Dan, where we found at least half a dozen ways to give him back control of his time, leverage his expertise, re-shuffle his programs, and make room for creative work he truly loves.

After you listen to this, be sure to post any questions or comments here - I WILL BE ANSWERING THESE PERSONALLY.

Dan allowed me to record and share our conversation for the benefit of other entrepreneurs who might be in a similar situation. You can download it here:

How “Getting Things Done” Hurts Entrepreneurs

I love this David Allen’s book. In fact, I devoured it about three years ago, looking for tips on productivity, efficiency, time management, and basically anything that would help me fit more work into less time.

But recently I’ve been thinking about what “getting things done” really stands for.  It teaches you how to be productive and organized, and do more in less time.  If you master the concepts in the “Getting Things Done” book, you’ll be able to tackle a large number of projects and to-do’s faster than anyone else. Great skills, right?

The problem is that it essentially teaches you how to become a taskmaster. Work, work, work…complete, complete, complete…organize a gazillion little things you need to accomplish into a system…implement all of your ideas faster, and so on.

So, you end up focusing on completing as many tasks as possible and that’s how you measure a successful day, week, or month.

I believe that it’s a dangerous place to be for entrepreneurs. Vision and focus - these are the two things entrepreneurs must operate from. Today I can accomplish in one hour something that will make a huge difference, while three years ago I focused on checking as many things off my to-do list as possible.

How do you operate? How do you measure success every day? Remember, your work never gets done - entrepreneurs create their own work - therefore choose to focus on ONE thing that makes all the difference in your business.
