Two Lessons from the "Donald"
This week's assignment for the three teams of The Apprentice was to design a marketing campaign for Trump's Towers in Las Vegas. The very first presentation was absolutely winning - concise, had a theme, well presented and designed, and delivered flawlessly.
The other two teams struggled and eventually lost a partner from each team. One - due to incorrect phone number on the brochure. I find it hard to believe he would fire someone just because of that, but by doing it on national TV he made a point - Trump doesn't tolerate mistakes.
The second losing team's presentation was really lousy, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to hear "I've heard enough!" from Mr. Trump. The final words of the presentation came from Frank, a team member, who said:
"Trump towers sell themselves...",
... to which Donald responded:
"Nothing sells itself, Frank."
Wise words from the "Donald" - point well taken, that even the best most popular brand on the market will not sell itself. Then why do we, coaches, think that our coaching expertise should sell itself?
