Mind Your Own Business (Delegation is Personal!)
This Saturday I decided to clean my house... I thought, if Julia Roberts can clean her toilets, so can I!Three hours later, when my kitchen was sparkling and I couldn't feel my legs, I looked around my 2,500 square feet house and thought....wow, I have a new appreciation for my cleaning lady.
I could've spent these 3 hours writing an article, editing my book, creating new products, developing a new marketing strategy for my business... Instead, I cleaned.
I guess part of the reason I decided not to wait for my cleaning lady is because I heard my mother's voice: "A woman has to clean her own house...that's part of being a woman."
I agree...unless she has more productive activities, and can hire a maid for $100 a week to do it for her. The fact that I am home doesn't make me any less busy (try to explain that to those who work outside their homes!), and there is no way I can do both AND take care of my two kids.
...Unless I am fighting for the title of a "superwoman!"
I think what you decide to delegate is a completely personal decision. When my mother cleans her house, she feels fulfilled and rewarded, even she doesn't enjoy the process. I feel completely unproductive and keep thinking to myself, "I could be doing something else."
