I Feel Jealous!
Whenever I see store clerks or customer service reps who have nothing today, it makes me sick to my stomach. Here they're, in the middle of the day, no customers...they just sit twiddling their thumbs, doing nothing.
They're bored.
Bored silly.
Can you imagine how much they could be learning and advancing in life, instead of literally killing their time?
They could be...
- Getting a new profession
- Learning a new skill
- Catching up on their mail
- Writing a book
- Doing some research
- Listening to seminar tapes
...That is, of course, if their boss allows them to.
Here I am, trying to find that missing 25th hour every day, and they're happily wasting it away.
Anyone else is bothered by that?
Luckily, when I used to work as a telemarketer at Oneida Silversmiths (you know, the famous company that sells silverware), I was able to read, write computer programs, and do all of my college homework.
Talk about time leverage...ALL the time!
What are YOU doing with your time?
- When you're waiting in line?
- While you're driving in traffic?
- While you're waiting for your son's swimming class to be over?
- While there is nothing good on TV? :)

Boy do I agree with you. Time is critical and to waste it is foolish. I always have reading material with me to catch up on in my brief case. I tend to catch up on calls with my cell phone if I am stuck. And that is also when I have a notebook handy for the wonderful ideas that come whether it is for me or one of my clients.
Well - I don't waste a minute of a day. I have a Treo - so even standing in line, I'm checking email, reading RSS feeds, etc. My usual M.O. is to be not only always busy - squeezing every moment out of the day, but usually doing two or three things in the same moment. And I do know what you mean - my boyfriend, for example, I find sometimes just sitting, doing nothing and i'm like "hey! are you sick?" and he says he's just "hanging." How do you do that, I wonder? I can hardly imagine! But, some times I actually try to force myself to just BE. There is something to be said for that, right?
